Somatic Psychotherapy

My first psychology related degree was in somatic psychotherapy. As such, I embrace the holistic approach offered by somatic psychotherapy, recognizing the profound connection between mind and body in the healing process.

Somatic psychotherapy is a specialised form of therapy that integrates traditional talk therapy with body-centred techniques to address the interplay between physical sensations, emotions, and psychological well-being.

It offers a safe and supportive space for individuals to gently explore and heal from past experiences, reduce stress and anxiety, and cultivate a deeper connection with themselves and others.

What is Somatic syoepy?

Somatic psychotherapy recognises that emotional and psychological issues are often stored in the body, manifesting as physical symptoms, tension, or discomfort.

By exploring the body's sensations, movements, and expressions, somatic psychotherapy allows individuals to access deeper layers of emotional and psychological experiences that may be inaccessible through traditional talk therapy alone.

People seek somatic psychotherapy for various reasons, including to heal from past experiences, relieve chronic pain or tension, improve body image and self-esteem, and enhance emotional-regulation and overall well-being.

Through somatic psychotherapy, individuals can experience a range of positive outcomes, including increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, enhanced resilience, and greater capacity for self-compassion, self-expression and connection.

By integrating body-based techniques such as breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, and tapping, somatic psychotherapy empowers individuals to release stored tension, process and release unresolved emotions, and cultivate a greater sense of vitality, peace, wholeness, and authenticity.

The somatic psychotherapy process begins with an initial assessment session, where you'll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, and preferences with me.

Together, we will create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and circumstances, incorporating body-centred techniques to support your healing journey.

Sessions may include a combination of talk therapy, somatic exercises, Compassionate Inquiry, EFT/tapping, mindfulness practices, and experiential techniques, depending on your goals and preferences.

I will guide you through gentle breathing and body awareness exercises to help you feel safe and grounded and to access and process emotions stored in the body. As you deepen your somatic awareness and release tension, you'll develop greater resilience, self-compassion, and a deeper connection with yourself and others.

As someone who has practiced somatic therapies for over twenty years both with clients and in my own life, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective sessions to support you on your path to healing and transformation.
