Compassionate nquiry

As my somatic work will be based around Compassionate Inquiry, together we gently explore and understand the underlying emotional and physical experiences that shape your well-being.

What is Compassionate nquiry?

Compassionate Inquiry is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté, a highly
respected and renowned physician and world-leading expert in trauma, addiction, and
childhood development.

This method focuses on helping individuals uncover and understand the deep-seated
emotional and psychological patterns that influence their behaviour and well-being.

Through a process of gentle, compassionate questioning and exploration, you are guided to
connect with your inner experiences, memories, and emotions.

The goal is to reveal the unconscious beliefs and unresolved traumas that shape our lives,
often hidden beneath layers of defense mechanisms.

Compassionate Inquiry

Why is Compassionate nquiry mportant?

Compassionate Inquiry is important because it addresses the root causes of emotional and
psychological distress rather than just the symptoms. It is body-based, deep and gentle work.

Many traditional therapeutic approaches may focus on managing or reducing symptoms
without delving into the underlying issues.

However, unresolved trauma and deeply ingrained negative beliefs can continue to impact a
person’s mental health and behaviour.

By bringing these to light in a compassionate and non-judgmental way, Compassionate
Inquiry facilitates deeper healing and transformation. It helps individuals understand the
origins of their struggles, leading to greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and ultimately,
more sustainable recovery and personal growth.

ow it Works and e enefits/ffects

Compassionate Inquiry works through a collaborative and empathetic dialogue between the
therapist and the client. The therapist uses open-ended questions and attentive listening to
help the client explore their inner world. This process involves several key elements:

The benefits of Compassionate Inquiry are profound. Clients often experience increased self-
awareness, which empowers them to make conscious choices rather than reacting
automatically based on past conditioning.

This approach also enhances emotional regulation, as individuals gain insight into their
triggers and develop healthier ways to cope with stress and negative emotions. Moreover, by
addressing and integrating unresolved trauma, clients can experience a reduction in
symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

Ultimately, Compassionate Inquiry promotes holistic healing, fostering a deeper sense of
inner peace, self-acceptance, and overall well-being.
